Miriam “Mimi” Planas - Miami Dade County Commission District 10

Mimi's Qualifications

As a business woman, I have been involved in many facets of this diverse community.

I have worked with import and export companies that have had a direct impact on our local economy. I have sold Real Estate, enabling the American Dream for many. I have been a part of our ever growing entertainment industry in various capacities. I have operated businesses and understand the trials & tribulations with owning a business as well.

My experience in these areas have given me in-depth and valuable knowledge. It has given me insight about the way our local economy functions and how to best prepare for unprecedented challenges.

From budgeting and marketing to diplomacy and courage (courage, because it is what we need in order to stand up for what we truly believe in). To hold steady with integrity and grace in the face of fire, knowing that what we are doing is the right thing to do. - This is the vision for my candidacy.

As a mother, I have struggled, sacrificed and learned that hard work pays off. I have also learned to cherish and love like never before. I have learned to be patient but stay firm with my decisions, to listen well, be fair and to compromise but not to the detriment of my family or those around me.

As a caretaker, I act with compassion. Not just for my own mother but for the entire elderly community. I am humbled and continue to be awed by their wisdom, strength and courage; not to mention those great stories that fascinate me every time I hear them. I have witnessed and even a part of the frustration of trying to fill a prescription or find decent health care. I struggle with the challenges of trying to get my mother transportation to the doctor, either by taking time off of work or trying to find other reliable means. I worry about who will take care of her when she can no longer take care of herself, . How will I be able to afford a home care provider with the rising cost of Health Care? I do, after all, have to work. I worry about these issues on a daily basis at every glance of my mother; which happens to be often since she lives with me. This is just one of the issues I will address throughout my campaign.

All of these experiences have trained me for this important and vital position. I am truly humbled and proud to be able to use these skills for the good and betterment of our community.
